FedEx Field (originally Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium) opened in 1997 and was named Jack Kent Cook Stadium after the recently deceased owner Jack Kent Cooke. The Redskins stadium stayed Jack Kent Cooke Stadium until 1999 when the team and the stadium were purchased by Daniel Snyder. The naming rights were sold to FedEx in November 1999 for an average of $7.6 million per year. FedEx Field replaced the current stadium name that same year and has been the official home of the Redskins ever since. FedEx Field is the largest stadium in the NFL and has a waiting list for Redskin season tickets of over 30 years. FedEx Field has been used as a concert venue for the Rolling Stones, U2, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

    • Despite many negative reviews I’ve seen, FEDEX Field looks absolutely beautiful from the inside and outside and Redskin fans can generate some real excitement- especially when they are beating the rival Eagles as we witnessed! Based on my own opinion, I’d give FEDEX a 5/5 trophies as one of my fave stadiums in America. Also worth noting- my close friend is a Redskins cheerleader and watching her on the sidelines was, how do I say, inspiring! After attending the game I am dumbfounded as to why Washington owner Daniel Snyder wants to replace this stadium. It’s not even 20 years old! NFL owners exist in a different reality than fans that attend the games. Long live FEDEX Field! -- Tim -- Arlington, VA
