    Kohl Center is home to the University of Wisconsin at Madison's NCAA basketball team and hockey team, the Badgers. The center opened in 1998 with construction costs of $76.4 million and featuring a multi-surface playing court capable of having a surface for both ice hockey and basketball. Kohl Center has a seating capacity of 17,230 for basketball games and 15,325 for hockey games. The stadium has three levels of seating with the two upper levels holding a total of about 9,000 seats. There is only one larger indoor stadium in all of Wisconsin. The stadium was named after the US Senator Herb Kohl who made the largest donation to the University of Wisconsin ever. In 2004 the stadium added a new scoreboard and an LED ribbon board to Kohl Center.
