The StubHub Center is the new temporary home of the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers. 30,000 fans can be seated which makes it one of the largest facilities ever to be built for soccer. It has 42 luxury suites, 6 event suites and 1500 club seats. Although it is quite small for NFL standards. It is the ideal spot where soccer teams can be trained for international competition, with ten training fields with the option of natural turf or artificial surface. In addition, it is the venue for many other social and cultural events. From 1961 to 2016, the Chargers played in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium (formerly San Diego, & Jack Murphy Stadium) History of Qualcomm- In the early 60s a local sportswriter began working on building support for a new stadium. By late 1965 a $27 million bond was passed to build a new stadium. In Dec of 1965 ground was broken for the new stadium with the construction being completed by 1967. Once the stadium it was completed it was named San Diego stadium. After the death of Jack Murphy, a local sportswriter who pushed for support of the new stadium, the stadium was renamed is his honor; Jack Murphy Stadium. This name held until 1997 when Qualcomm Corporation brought the naming rights and changed the name to Qualcomm Stadium. The stadium has been home for the San Diego Chargers for more than four decades. For the first sixteen years the stadium basically stayed the same. In 1983 just over 9,000 bleachers were added bringing the seating capacity to 59,022. In 1997 the most substantial addition was done when the stadium was enclosed except at the site of the scoreboard. In preparation of the Super Bowl XXXII set to take place at the Qualcomm in 1998, 11,000 seats were installed. Qualcomm was built with half of the Field Level seating being permanent and the other half portable. This is so the stadium can be configured for baseball. Through a tunnel below the Plaza Level , access is allowed to these seats by doorways that were cut in the walls of the stadium.
